CODE ENFORCEMENT

Code Enforcement staff members are dedicated to providing superior service to our community. Code Enforcement officers are required to be customer service oriented and sympathetic. At the same time, the nature of their work requires them to be firm, fair and consistent in carrying out their enforcement duties. We assist residents in creating solutions for every problem, our code enforcement program is progressive, and our staff is dedicated to putting forth their very best efforts.The mission of Code Enforcement is to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment.

Goals of Enforcement Code

  • Administer a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of the San Fernando City Code (SFCC).
  • Work with San Fernando residents, businesses, neighborhood associations, and public service agencies to: establish community priorities for code enforcement; assist community self-help programs; and develop public outreach programs.
  • Utilize an effective "Complaint Management System", which is a responsive solution-oriented approach, designed specifically to provide practical and efficient response to code enforcement complaints.
  • Establish priorities for a proactive approach to code enforcement. Long term comprehensive solutions are developed and implemented in order to address specific nuisances or code enforcement problems within the community.
  • Target the most common code violations for a proactive approach to code enforcement to preserve and enhance the community.

Services Provided

  • We investigate citizen complaints and provide assistance in achieving practical solutions.
  • We use a combination of administrative, civil, and criminal enforcement methods to remedy violations of the San Fernando City Code. The codes that we enforce include, but are not limited to: Zoning Code, Sign Code, Business License Ordinances and Public Nuisance Ordinances Building Code, Plumbing Code, Electrical Code, Fire Code, Housing Code, and Health Code,.
  • We conduct inspections for business license and occupancy permits.

 

Community Preservation Neighborhood Clean-ups

The City of San Fernando in conjunction with Crown Disposal conducts special clean-up days for residents of the community.  These special clean-up days participants to dispose of accumulated discarded items and assist in beautifying both their property and the neighborhood.  This will be an event limited only to the residents and property owners within the boundaries of the neighborhood focus area.
