BUSINESS LICENSE
How to start a business in the City of San Fernando
Step 1
- Contact San Fernando City Hall to make sure the zoning is
correct for your new business address.
- Every business must
meet certain zoning requirements. Call the Planning Department
at (818) 898-1227 for further information
and to obtain a Commercial Business Occupancy Permit Application.
Step 2
- File a fictitious business name statement
- It is recommended
that you call the Los Angeles County Clerk’s
Office to determine if your business name is already in use.
- Contact
your local newspaper. The paper will file your
DBA statement with the Los Angeles County Clerk’s
Office and publish your new business name.
Step 3
- Obtain a State Board of Equalization resale permit, if
required. Contact the State of California to file proper
State Tax forms
and obtain labor standards for employees.
- Businesses are
required to obtain a permit from the State Board of
Equalization for “selling or acquiring any tangible
items for repair or use in the business”
- The seller’s
permit must show your San Fernando business address.
Step 4
- Obtain a Federal Tax Identification Number
- Contact the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for your employer identification
number. They also provide seminars for new businesses,
additional information and required forms.
Step 5
- Obtain a Business License Application
- Contact the City
of San Fernando to obtain an application for Business
License.
- Depending
on the type of business you have you may be required
to bring in these or any of the following documents:
- County Health Permit
- Alcoholic Beverage Control Permit
- State Contractor’s
License
- Establishment and Cosmetology License
- Bureau of Automotive
Repair License

application:

- Business telephone number
- Description of the business
- The property owner’s
name, address and telephone number
- Social Security Number
- Federal Tax ID number
- Driver’s License
- Articles of Incorporation, if
applicable

How to obtain a San Fernando Swap Meet Business License
- Obtain a State Board of Equalization resale permit
- Apply
for a seller’s permit with the CSBOE, it must
show your name and/or business name and the San Fernando
Swap Meet address:
