BEAT THE HEAT AT CITY COOLING CENTERS

The City of San Fernando has opened the following cooling centers to provide residents with relief from summer heat.

Recreation Park:

Cooling centers will be open until September 30. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Mission City Transit will provide low-cost transportation to and from the centers. Cost per trip is 50 cents for seniors and the disabled, and 75 cents for the general public. Call for reservations: (818) 366-4119.

Residents experiencing signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke should dial 9-1-1.

RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO TAKE THE FOLLOWING PRECAUTIONS DURING PERIODS OF EXTREME HEAT:

  • Drink plenty of water or juice
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • Wipe skin with cool water as needed
  • Reduce outside activities
  • Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing
  • Stay inside during the hottest time of day (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
  • Seek relief from the heat in air conditioned locations
  • Check on older, sick, or frail people in your community who may need help responding to the heat
  • Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles, even for short periods of time
